superguy:

Empty Me

by Chris Sligh

I’ve had just enough of the spotlight
When it burns bright
To see how it gets in the blood
And I’ve tasted my share
Of the sweet life
And the wild ride
And found a little is not quite enough

I know how i can stray
And how fast my heart could change

Empty me
Of the selfishness inside
Every vain ambition
And the poison of my pride
And any foolish thing my heart holds to
Lord empty me of me
So i can be
Filled with you

Ive seen just enough of the quick buys
Of the best lies
To know how prodigals can be drawn away

I know how I can stray
And how fast my heart could change
Empty me
Of the selfishness inside
Every vain ambition
And the poison of my pride
And any foolish thing my heart holds to
Lord empty me of me
So I can be
Filled with you

Cuz everything is a lesser thing
Compared to you
Compared to you
Cuz everything is a lesser thing
Compared to you
So I surrender all

Empty me
Of the selfishness inside
Every vain ambition
And the poison of my pride

Empty me
Of the selfishness inside
Every vain ambition
And the poison of my pride
And any foolish thing my heart holds to
Lord empty me of me
So I can be
Lord empty me of me
So I can be
Filled with you.
Filled with you
Empty me

Many of you may recognize Chris Sligh as the man who auditioned on American Idol and actually made it into the top 12. It wasn’t until my Godmother Cecilia mentioned this song to me, and told me that it was Chris Sligh, that I knew it was him.

Just everything about this song touches my heart. How we should abandon all of OUR desires, OUR pride, OUR selfish ambitions, and every stupid little thing that we may wish would happen to us, and just let the Lord fill us completely with His love. Who cares if we have alot of money? Who cares if we have a boyfriend or a girlfriend? Those things are nice and all, but if we don’t have Him? If we don’t have our Lord? We have nothing. And as the last part of the song so clearly describes, “Cuz everything is a lesser thing Compared to You”, nothing can compare to our Lord and Savior for He is the one that brought us new life and HE, and HE alone, is the one that loves us unconditionally, even though we stray, He is there to welcome us back with open and loving arms.

Lord, help us to live a life of only You. Grant us the strength to avoid any and ALL temptation, and grant us the patience to continue to follow Your path as you slowly divulge us in Your plan for us.
